Chikmagalur Diocese

Back Kala Sourabha 2010

Chickmagalur Diocese Kala Sourabha, a unique cultural contest been a practice in the diocese of Chikmagalur for several years, once again gathered momentum in the International Year of Youth, 2010-2011. The Balehonnur Deanary gathered its young people from 7 out of 10 parishes to take part in the mega event that took place on the 23rd January 2011 at St. Joseph’s School ground from 3.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. Each parish brought along 25 young people with some parishioners. There were 5 different events Carol Song; drama; quiz; folk dance and tabloo- all of these were creative presentations based on the bible.

All the groups were very creative in reflecting the present day situation of young people through their gospel messages; be it in the form of dance or drama or singing. The parishners of Koppa gathered in large numbers to witness this event. This event once again gathered momentum for revival and renewal of the youth work in the diocese. It is the effort of the Dean of Balehonnur Fr. Charles Periera, who also coordinates the youth work in this zone. This deanery formed the team of youth leaders a month ago with Mr. Rohan Mathias as its president; and it is encouraging to note under his leadership the team has been able to successfully carryout this major event of bringing together nearly 400 people of whom 250 were youth.
