YCS Zoom Diocesan Convention at Udupi

15th October, 2017: Udupi Diocese: Young Catholic Students Movement (YCS) of Udupi Diocese organized "YCS – Zoom 2017" at St Joseph's Church premises at Belman on Friday, 20th October, 2017.

Msgr Dr. Baptist Menezes inaugurated the programme traditionally and later addressed the gatherings. Five competitions namely IAS/IPS Zoom, Bible Model, Traditional Games, Konkani Cultural Singing and Konkani Dances were organized.

During Valedictory ceremony the stage programme was presided over by Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi. Rev Fr. Anil Jacob Dsa, Karnataka Regional Youth & YCS Director, Rev Fr. Roshan Santhumayar Belgaum Diocese YCS Director, Rev Fr. Michael Santhumayar Principal of Milagres College Mangaluru, Rev Fr. Edwin Dsouza Director of Youth Commission YCS Udupi diocese, Rev Fr. Roy Lobo Asst Parish Priest of Belman, Sr. Usha Stella Superior of Belman Convent, Mr Alwyn Agera Vice President and Mr Paustine Dsouza Secretary of Belman Church Parish Pastoral Council, Diocese YCS Animators Mrs. Lydia Aranha & Mr. Melwyn Castelino, Diocese YCS Preident Merwyn Rodrigues & Secretary Dilan Dias were present on the dais.

Rev Fr. Michael Santhumayar delivered speech on higher studies regarding Hotel Management and others and gave brief on career oriental courses &its scope for the students.

The Animators of YCS units of various parishes were felicitated by Rev Fr. Anil Jacob Dsa. In his address Fr Anil Jacob appreciated the youths of the diocese for their marvelous activities in diocese which is first in the Karnataka State Dioceses. The youths should have commitment qualities, committed competence and young must be compassionate. Hence, they can succeed in their life.

The participants of YCS national convention were felicitated during the occasion by Rev Fr. Roshan Santhumayar. In his address Fr Roshan briefed the advantages of YCS as it gives sense of belongingness, gives a chance to be oneself, creates an atmosphere where one feels accepted and respected, gives an opportunity to discover ones talents and weakness and gives an opportunity to deepen their insights.

In his presiding address Bishop pointed about the selection of job oriented courses like IPS, IAS, top governmental jobs in railways, defence, teachers and lecturers etc.. He said first of all we should have certain aim in life to succeed. Secondly the aim in life should have the power to succeed. God has given us the power to succeed and we should make use of it. Thirdly there should be hard work to succeed. Without hard work in our studies, we can never expect better in our life. Out of 14 dioceses of Karnataka, Udupi Diocese youths are first in overall achievements. 357 SSLC students have got distinction and we have well talented youths. We have target to achieve 25 jobs in IAS or IPS before 2015. Already since two years we are able to get two posts.

Traditional Games: Byndoor & Pangla Unit were the winners.

Rev Fr. Edwin D’Souza Director of YCS, Udupi diocese delivered vote of thanks. The event was concluded with YCS Anthem.
