34th ICYM National Council Meeting held at Jalandhar – Punjab

Participants: Thirteen Regional council members and Invitees from Northern region. Total 75

January 31st 2013, Delegates were welcomed for the 34th National Council meeting at Jalandhar Diocese by Rev. Fr. Peter Kavumpuram, Regional Youth Director of Northern region as well as the DYD of Jalandhar Diocese. At 7 pm Fr. Franklin D’Souza, National Youth Director Celebrated the Eucharist and welcomed the delegates for the 34th National Council meeting.

On February 1st, 2013 the day started with Holy Eucharist which was celebrated by Most Rev. Franco Mulakkal, Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Delhi & Chairman of Northern Regional Youth Commission. In his Homily he stressed that faith should bring transformation in us and through us to the world. He prayed for the success of the 34th historical ICYM National Council which was held to discuss about 9th National Council at Jalandhar from Oct. 5th to 12th 2013.

At 9 am Sr. Josephine Varghese led the prayer service. Then the 34th ICYM Council meeting was officially inaugurated by Most Rev. Leo Cornelio - Archbishop of Archdiocese of Bhopal & Chairman Bishop of ICYM, Most Rev. Anil Joseph Thomas Couto- Archbishop of Archdiocese of Delhi & Apostolic Administrator of Jallandhar Diocese, Most Rev. Franco Mulakkal – Northern Regional Youth commission Chairman, Fr Franklin D’Souza ICYM National Youth Director, Sr. Josephine Varghese – National Youth Lady Animator and Ms. Olima Minj – ICYM National Youth President, Fr. Peter Kavumpuram – RYD of Northern Region, Mr. Percival –RYP Northern Region, Mr. Abishek ICYM Secretary from Northern Region (Jalandhar Diocese) by lightening of the lamp. Then ICYM National President Ms. Olima minj officially welcomed the dignitaries and delegates. All the three bishops shared which beautiful messages. Archbishop Leo Cornelio welcomed and congratulated on behalf of ICYM Most Rev. Anil Joseph Thomas Couto as he took over as the Archbishop of Arch Diocese Delhi as well as he is the Governing body member of ICYM. Archbishop Anil welcomed the delegates to his diocese. In their address all three prelates insisted how youth could bring the change in themselves and in the society by making use of ICYM platform. Abp. Leo Cornelio released the new directory of ICYM-2013.

Chairman Bishop Leo Cornelio gave the inaugural address for the council proper. He invited everyone to take part in the council meaningfully. Ms. Olima Minj took the chorum for the council, she read out the agenda. Since Mr. Titu Thomas ICYM General Secretary resigned from the post, election was held for the post. Ms. Shraddhanjali was unanimously elected as the ICYM General Secretary for the remaining term. Mr. Ravi took over as FIMCAP representative of India. National ICYM Director Fr. Franklin explained about the importance of 34th ICYM National Council. After which council started the business with some serious discussion. It was really touching to see our youth committed and serious. Best of ideas were brought forward by the youth discussing the details of the mega event National Youth Convention 2013 and committing themselves to make this event a grand and success.

Day was ended with Eucharistic Adoration conducted by Fr. Franklin D’Souza. Team prayed for the success of National youth Convention which will be held at Trinity College Campus, Jalandhar, Punjab.

2nd February 2013 Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Most Rev. Leo Cornelio and concelebrated by Most Rev. Anil Couto & RYD’s. Since this day was the feast of “Presentation of the Lord” there was a candle light procession, Main topic discussed was Yuvagram- The Youth Village and educating people of the vision for this land and seeing the future were youth would be gathered for spiritual growth and coming to exchange ideas and culture making it a hub for Catholic Youth of India. Chairman Bishop Leo Cornelio met the RYD’S and RYLA’S group separately. Group visited IX National Youth Convention Spot and prayed there for the success of the NYC 2013.

Regional Reports were presented by every Region. It was nice to know how youth activities and youth are active in their own respective regions. Abp. Leo Cornelio officially concluded National Council at 7pm.The day ended with a Rosary at the grotto surrendering our future plan to Mama Mary.

On 3rd February 2013 Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Peter Kavumpuram, He thanked God for all the blessings on the council that we received. He also invited youth to witness Jesus. After the mass site seeing tour was organized by the national council. Group visited Jalianwala bhag, Golden Temple then Waga Boarder.
