National Youth Convention Cross reaches

In view of the 10th National Youth Convention scheduled to be held from 18th to 22nd January 2017, at the St Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore, the NYC Cross which is an integral part of the spiritual binding of the youth of Karnataka began from the arch-diocese of Bengaluru, and after being taken to various dioceses of Karnataka region was handed over to the local host diocese, the Mangalore Diocese on Sunday, December 11.

The NYC Cross was ceremoniously received from the Bishop of Udupi diocese - Most Rev. Fr. Gerald Issac Lobo, the director of ICYM Udupi diocese – Fr Edwin D’Souza, and the central council of ICYM Udupi diocese by the ICYM Mangalore diocese under the leadership of the director of ICYM Mangalore diocese, Fr. Ronald D’Souza. The handing over ceremony was being held at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur. The bishop of Udupi Diocese and other priests concelebrated the Holy Eucharist mass. This was followed by special prayer service for the success of the NYC.

The National Youth Convention (NYC) Cross which arrived to the Mangalore city, was welcomed at Rosario Cathedral. A procession followed the NYC cross to the Cathedral. Fr Ronald D’Souza handed over the Cross to Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, the Vicar General of the Mangalore diocese. Msgr Denis Prabhu accepted the Cross on behalf of the Bishop of Mangalore and handed it over to the Vicar Forane of Episcopal City deanery and the Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral, Rev. Fr J B Crasta.

The Cross was later kept in the altar of the Rosario Cathedral and Fr Ronald D’Souza along with Fr Anil Lobo, the director of ICYM Episcopal City deanery, conducted the prayer service. Following the prayer service, the cross was handed over by the Director, President - Jackson Eric D’Costa and the members of ICYM Central Council to the Director, President and the council of Episcopal City deanery.

Mr. Prajwal Lopez, the President of Karwar Diocese and the member of Karnataka regional council was present. A large crowd of youths, deanery directors, nuns, priests and parishioners were present on the occasion.

The NYC cross will travel over 12 deaneries of Mangalore diocese from December 11th to January 17th. The cross will finally be brought up at the venue of St. Joseph Engineering College on 18th of January, 2017.
