"Grandparents Day celebration" at Ozanam Home for the Aged - Udupi

On August 18th, 2024, at 10.45 am, the regional team of ICYM and leaders from five coastal dioceses visited Kalyanpur - Ozanam Home for the Aged in Udupi diocese. The visit was led by Mr. Yeshappa, one of the Rexco, with a short prayer. The celebration included entertainment performances such as singing, dancing, action songs and a few words to the elderly by Fr. Lourd Raj, the Regional director. Initially, the elderly participants seemed unenthused, but as they engaged in activities, their faces transformed from a few faint smiles to a room full of energy and storey telling. The interactions brought a profound change empowering them to feel confident and hopeful, reminding them that they are not alone. This experience highlights the significance of attentive listening which can be truly transformative. It shows that sometimes, all someone needs is to listen. This celebration also served as a reminder to the youth to care for their parents, and ensure they don’t feel abandoned, becoming somebody’s responsibility or a burden on society.
