Bosco Youth
Rev. Fr. Uday Kumar SDB
Bosco Youth Regional Director
BOSCO YOUTH in Karnataka is a prominent youth movement organized and animated by the Salesians of Don Bosco (Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore).
Initiated in Karnataka in 1997 under the leadership of the Province Youth Commission, the movement was originally named Don Bosco Youth Movement. Today, it operates across the state, bringing together thousands of young people (primarily between the ages of 15 to 29) through a network divided into five active zones: Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Mysuru, Hassan, and Yadgiri.
The movement is deeply rooted in the "Preventive System" of St. John Bosco - an educational philosophy built on three foundational pillars: Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness. It functions through local, zonal, and state executive teams to guide young individuals, particularly those from rural, marginalized, or at-risk backgrounds, into becoming leadership-driven, self-reliant individuals.
Vision
"A society that will unreservedly care for the wellbeing of its children and youth with preventive and promotional approaches, while standing up for their rights."
The movement envisions a just, inclusive society where less-privileged and rural youth are completely integrated, empowered with qualitative knowledge and value-based education, and capable of building a stronger nation.
Mission
"BOSCO accompanies the young at risk in their struggles and journeys from the margins to the centre of society so that they become integrated individuals and responsible citizens in the society."
The mission focuses on making God’s supportive presence felt among the youth, enhancing their human dignity, and providing them with skill-oriented, work-related, and holistic tools to transition safely into a dignified adult life.
Key Objectives
BOSCO Youth Karnataka operates with clear structural, spiritual, and social objectives:
• Holistic Character Formation: To mold young people into integrated, moral human beings by focusing simultaneously on their body, heart, mind, and spirit.
• Youth Leadership & Participation: To foster active social participation by establishing democratic local units (Local, Zonal, and State Executive Teams) where the youth learn management, governance, and social responsibility firsthand.
• Skill Development & Empowerment: To offer professional updating, seminars, talent expression, and technical or vocational guidance to rural and less-privileged youth, smoothing their integration into the modern workforce.
• Healing and Psychological Support: To clear vision and ideals, heal inner blocks, and provide emotional counseling or professional guidance to adolescents navigating difficult transitions.
• Social & Environmental Engagement: To instill a fundamental respect for every individual, a deep pride in social diversity, and an active commitment to environmental protection and community development.
