ICYM Shirthady Unit celebrates World Teachers Day
7th October, 2018 : ICYM Shirthady Unit along with the parishioners celebrated World Teachers Day on the feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux on Sunday 7th October 2018 under the guidance of Parish Priest Rev Fr Francis Crasta.
World Teachers day, also known as International Teachers Day is celebrated annually on 5th of October in commemoration of the great step made for teachers in 1966 when UNESCO in cooperation with the ILO adopted the UNESCO/ILO recommendation concerning the status of teachers. To mark the vital contribution of teachers to education and society, ICYM Shirthady Unit celebrated Teachers Day. All the teachers of the parish celebrated Teachers Day by taking part in the Holy Eucharistic Celebration as well by conducting the Sunday Liturgy. Main celebrant of the Holy Eurcharistic Celebration was Rev Fr Nelson Dalmeida - Director Sandesha Mangalore and co-celebrants were Rev Fr Guruji Joe Mary Lobo - Director Sri Christa Sharan Ashram Birur and Rev Fr Francis Crasta - Parish Priest Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Shirthady. For their selfless service, the teachers were honoured florally along with a memento as a token of appreciation.
A small programme was conducted after the mass. Rev Fr Francis Crasta presided the function along with Wilfred Pinto - Vice President and Lita Pereira - Secretary Parish Pastoral Council, Jaison Pereira - President ICYM Central Council Mangalore Diocese, Herald Dsilva - Animator ICYM Shirthady Unit. Chintan Lobo - President ICYM Shirthady Unit welcomed the gathering. Rev Fr Francis Crasta gave his presidential message and stressed the importance of teacher and their service to the Church and society and wished them all well and success in their profession of teaching. ICYM unit members conducted games and entertained the gathering. On behalf of all the teachers, Edward Dsa appreciated the efforts of all the unit members in conducting this programme. Preemal Dsa - Secretary ICYM Shirthady Unit proposed the vote of thanks. Breakfast was served to the gathering.
It was a fun filled programme. A Total of 24 teachers were part of this programme.
