Karnataka Regional Youth Commission 17th Council

St. Joseph’s Church Kalkera, Bangalore 8th October, 2016, Bangalore: With a warm welcome to everyone the 17th regional council of Karnataka started at 11:00 a.m at St. Joseph church hall. There were 43 members present from all youth movements that are ICYM, AICUF, Don Bosco Youth, Jesus Youth and Hosanna Youth.. The programme was initiated by Mr. Sanjay Austin and Mr.Vipin Paul, the President welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp, Ms. Valida Mendonca, the General Secretary presented the minutes of 16th council meeting which was proposed by Mr. Cyril Prabhu from Bangalore diocese and seconded by Mr.Prajwal Lopez from Karwar diocese.

All the members introduced themselves through ice breaking session,. Fr. Mari Joseph gave a brief introduction of the agenda, purpose of the council and explained the importance of other youth movements for national convention since they all belong to Regional Youth Commission. He further continued the importance of NYC over Regional and Diocesan conventions and the reason of choosing Mangalore as the Venue for 10th National Youth Convention. After tea break, Mr.Sijo Ambatt gave a brief introduction about the preparations of National Youth Convention and invited us to work as one team. The diocesan annual reports were read by the Diocesan Youth Movements of Udupi, Karwar, Mangalore, Bangalore, Belgaun, Jesus Youth, AICUF, Don Bosco and Hossana Youth. Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Mari Joseph before Lunch. After the lunch, the members were assigned for 30 committies of 10th NYC. After tea break Fr. Mari explained the responsibilities of each committee followed by an interaction between council members, special invitees and the REXCO’s.

The following points were discussed
• Need of better communication: use of accessories like walkie-talkie.
• Portable toilets and washing places, availability of water tanks at the venue due scarcity of water.
• To conduct the Latin rite mass with Latin Choir. Suggestions were made to request Jeppu seminary brothers from Mangalore for the same.

• Separate counters and labelling of Veg and Non-Veg food.
• Informing the delegates about weather condition, route maps, etc.
• Social media and publicity should be done by Media and pubilcity committee with the help of documentation team and committees to update day to day events of NYC in various social media sites.
• National Youth Convention to be promoted during forth coming diocesan events so that participation for the same will be more.
• Suggestions were made to divide the youth into groups and conduct sessions and make it more interactive.
• Need of an Emergency Response Team who will be responsible for rapid action if situation arises pertaining to legal documents, assembly area, fire safety, legal advice and any other related issues.
• A Help Desk Counter to address the needs of delegates and to help them to reach out concerned committee/department as soon as possible.
• For prayer sessions there can be two youth from each region who will assist Jesus Youth.
• Request was made to local organizing committee that transportation arrangements from Mangalore junction to NYC venue should be systematic.
• One of the suggestions was to put up a larger LED screen and a few screens to be placed at different location of the venue.
• To promote the NYC animation video in whatsapp which will be circulated to all
• To make NYC memorable there were suggestions to hold a peace march with one large white flag indicating peace instead of play cards and floats
• Since 12th to 18th Jan is celebrated as International Youth Week there was a suggestion to make peace march, more youth oriented and should be conducted in a way that it should be broadcasted on the international level as well as in local news channels capturing the large audience around the world.

We concluded the day with birthday celebration of a Bangalore Diocesan President Mr. Leo, and for better bond between the council members there was barbecue arranged by Fr. Saji, DYD Mandya and youth were enthrilled with camp fire which was accompanied with games, music and dance

9th October, 2016: Day began with mass at St.Joseph church. After the breakfast at 9:00am, council meeting began at 10:30 am. Mr. Abhilash initiated the meeting, followed by prayer and the report of 8th October, 2016 was read by Ms.Valida.

Mr Vipin Paul, Regional President welcomed Chairman Bishop Henry Dsouza to the council and Bishop gave insights about World Youth Day. He spoke about spiritual experiences and participation of Indian youth in various activities such as music band, days in diocese and he even shared his experience in WYD.

Bishop put forth 3 main intentions for this council i.e. NYC 2017, CAP INDIA 2016 and promotion of YOUCAT, DOCAT and YOUTH BIBLE. He stressed on 20 youth leaders from each diocese to participate in NYC and from Karnataka region, from each parish minimum 2 youth leaders and maximum 3 youth leaders to participate. By the end of December we must ensure there should be 10,000 registrations. He was disappointed about the registration of CAP India. He said youth should ensure to have at least 5000 registrations and he continued about subsidizing the cost for books such as YOUCAT, DOCAT and Youth Bible and same to reach out to each youth.

For days in diocese, total number of delegates that can be accomadated so far in the Region is 1350 - from Puttur (100), Udupi (500), Mangalore (500), Badravathi (100) and Belthangadi (150). There was a suggestion from council to include any other dioceses that are willing. Council proposed Kerala region could take up the responsibilty if needed.

Proposed 2 or 3 members from each parish will participate only during NYC, not in days in diocese. 20 members from each diocese include, animators and directors. Bishop wished to have unique ID for past and present ICYM members. Fr Mari asked the council to decide the number of delegates from other youth movements, council proposed 100 members which has to be finalised in the National Council.

After a break, Fr Saji introduced JOC consultancy representatives Mr.Biju and Mr.Mathew who supported him and their dioceses specially for sponsoring this council. Members from JOC consultancy distributed the brochures to the members of council. Fr. Mari expressed his gratitude towards the director of mandya diocese, for having our council in the St. Joseph`s church kalkere. Contribution from each diocese for the NYC was stressed upon. Fr. Mari Joseph and Mr.Vipin Paul appreciated NYC cross journey, social activities and also contribution from each diocese. After tea break Bishop explained, regarding days in diocese, finance and peace march.

Days in diocese
• Diocese should be assigned according to rites.
• 14th will be arrival which will include welcoming of the delegates in respective stations and guiding them to a particular venue.
• Common prayer, interaction and refreshments to be arranged.
• Delegates will be sent to the assigned families of the diocese and families will prepare themselves to recieve these delegates.
• 15th Jan - delegates will spend time with parish communities.
• 16th Jan - pilgrimage to shrines, old age homes, etc beginning from a particular place.
• There should be programmes such as rosary, family prayers, etc.
• Parish can arrange for a visit to tourist spots but youth will not be allowed to go the sea or river.
• 17th Jan- interaction with the youth and parish with cultural programmes.
• Everyday mass should be celebrated.
• 18th Jan - delegates will reassemble and will be guided to venue.

Dexco is supposed to contribute 30 lakhs.
Bishop mentioned all amount should be receipted and for more than Rs 10,000/- PAN numbers should be noted. Up to Rs. 20000/- can be received through cash. All the cash should go into the bank. Above 5 lakhs sponsors will be encouraged directly to sponsor any event. He mentioned the account of the NYC should be operated by 2 persons that is the Director and the President

Peace march
Peace march is proposed from Cordel - Kulsheker church to NYC venue with one large white flag. Mandya Diocese is given responsibility to represent Karnataka region for NYC. Bishop also mentioned to highlight our Saints from India.

Before concluding the council, Mr.Vipin Paul, President welcomed Fr.Saji to motivate council members through his inspiring message and encourage the youth leaders to strengthen the church by their dedicated and selfless hard work, especially for NYC.

Mr.Micheal Rodrigues proposed vote of thanks and Mr.Vipin Paul concluded the 17th council meeting cheering the efforts of Fr. Saji and parishners supporting the council meeting.
