MIJARC Asia Agroecology Training & Extraordinary Assembly 2026

The MIJARC Asia event, held from May 8th to May 12th, 2026, in Kotagiri, Ooty, Tamil Nadu, successfully brought together dynamic youth representatives to empower them for sustainable food systems. Actively participating in the event and contributing to the discussions were Mr. Johnviston Dias and Ms. Rishal Dsouza (MIJARC Karnataka Coordinators), Ms. Sheryl Agnes (KRYC Coordinator), and Ms. Deepthi (Former MIJARC ASIA Women Commission Chairperson).

On Day 1 (May 9), the program commenced with an inaugural ceremony featuring addresses by Ms. Asha Ramesh and Dr. Krishnakar Kummari. Ms. Ramesh led the opening session detailing the core principles of agroecology—focusing on promoting biodiversity, preserving natural processes, and reducing chemical inputs. She also highlighted gender inequalities in agriculture, introducing the Gender Transformative Agroecology (GTA) approach. Later, Dr. J. Naveen addressed climate change, rural livelihoods, and the critical need for youth perspectives, concluding the day with interactive group discussions.

On Day 2 (May 10), the focus shifted toward practical advocacy skills and natural farming. Mrs. Asha Ramesh outlined essential advocacy methods and tools for driving social transformation. Dr. J. Naveen steered the subsequent session on natural farming, emphasizing chemical-free agriculture, local seed preservation, and bio-inputs. Following a special Mother’s Day celebration, participants engaged in a best practices exchange. Leaders Deepthi, Bihung, and Venkat presented regional youth-led initiatives spanning tree plantations, kitchen gardening, and village awareness, culminating in collaborative action planning.

On Day 3 (May 11), the event transitioned into the MIJARC Asia General Assembly. Following organizational activity reviews and financial reporting, delegates strategized on strengthening youth participation across Asian regions. A milestone election was conducted during the assembly, and several key individuals were elected to leadership positions to guide the movement forward. The newly elected leaders included Fr. Prakash as Asian Chaplain, Micheal as House Committee Chair, and Rajendra as Management Committee Chair. The assembly concluded with certificate distribution and a celebratory group photo.

On Day 4 (May 12), the event concluded with an engaging exposure and sightseeing visit. The participants traveled to different prominent locations around the region, exploring the local culture and landscape while strengthening their bonds of network solidarity before departing.
