KRCBC-Youth Commission organized the 2nd YCS/YSM Regional Convention in Bangalore

The 2nd YCS/YSM Regional Convention convened from April 19-21, 2024, at St. Jude Church, Naganapalya, Bangalore. The Karnataka region organized this second YCS/YSM convention after eight arduous years. The convention aimed to convey a message of responsibility to students as they mature, focusing on the theme “Gen-Z for a self-sustaining world.” The event commenced with an inaugural holy Eucharist at 4.00 pm, presided over by Archbishop Peter Machado, and other priests concelebrated in it. After the Mass, the archbishop hoisted the national flag, and Fr. Chethan Machado, the national chaplain, raised the YCS/YSM flag. Thus, the 2nd YCS/YSM Regional Convention was declared open.
In the inaugural session, the Archbishop highlighted 3Ds such as dedication, discipline, and devotion, which are very important in the lives of every student. Along with him, Fr. Chethan Machado, Chaplain YCS/YSM India, Sr. Lidwin Fernandes Secretary CCBI Women Commission, Fr. Vignan Das Associate Director Communio India, Fr. Anil Prasad Coordinator KRPPIC, Fr. Lourd Raj Chaplain YCS/YSM Karnataka, Fr. Vivian Richards Chaplain YCS/YSM Bangalore, Sr. Molly the Regional Lady Animator, and both the presidents Regional as well as diocesan YCS/YSM were president in the dais.
In line with the theme, the students were taken to Lalbagh Park for an exposure program guided by Fr. Anil D’sa, who was the resource person of the day. The day included discussions on nature preservation, awareness of plastic usage, and environmental conservation efforts. Students engaged in activities like clearing areas and preparing pots for planting seedlings in anticipation of the upcoming flower show in August. The Lalbagh Botanical Garden deputy director also provided insights into horticulture and the history of the garden.
The outstanding students were recognized and honoured in the convention for having made an impact on society and the church through their contributions at the various levels. On the last day, the regional election was organized. There were 18 nominations from different dioceses who wished to contest the election. Fr. Pius, diocesan chaplain Shimoga facilitated the election and the new regional team of students (RTS) formed in the convention.
The three-day convention was filled with joy, fun, and learning. There were 230 delegates who actively participated in the animation, workshop, sessions, exposure, and spiritual activities. Overall, the convention fostered a sense of community, learning, and responsibility among students, in line with the theme of the event.
